Interview on the founding of the magazine

This year's Open Access Week 2024 will focus on the topic of “science-led publishing”. This form of publishing aims to put scientific communication more in the hands of researchers while opening up access to knowledge for everyone.

Traditionally, scientific knowledge often remains hidden behind paywalls. Science-led publishing focuses on open access, i.e. free access to scientific literature and research results. It also describes a publication model in which researchers retain control over the entire publication process - from the creation of the manuscript to peer review and publication. Academic open access platforms and repositories are used that are independent of commercial publishers. This model therefore promotes the free exchange of knowledge and more transparent and collaborative science.

A key advantage is the democratization of knowledge. Open research platforms enable scientists to share their results without the hurdles of commercial publication fees. Another aspect is quality assurance. In these publication models, peer review procedures are often replaced by open peer review, where the entire review process is public and transparent.
In 2023, Prof. Anja Wildemann and Dr. Katharina Kellermann founded the journal Research on Language in order to offer German didactics another publication medium. Anja Müller, Lena Bien-Miller and Sarah L. Fornol are also involved as permanent editors.
